Welcome to the Rotorua Anglers Association Web Site. Our club has now been in existence for over 50 years, our membership participating in all forms of trout fishing, be it flyfishing, spinning, trolling, harling, etc. We have approximately 150 members, and have recently extended the “family” membership to include grandchildren in order to encourage more junior participation in the club. We have a social session at our Pererika Street Clubrooms (next to St. Johns Ambulance depot) every Friday night from 5 to 7 pm, where members and friends can chat, provide newcomers with fishing information, plan trips, etc. Visitors are always welcome. Over the summer months we hold monthly barbeques at the Friday night sessions, and in winter we have a couple of “pot-luck” dinners. Most months we have a club trip – this may be a local day trip or a weekend trip further afield. Details are in the newsletter and on this website. This is a great opportunity to explore new water and for inexperienced anglers to fish beside a more experienced member. Our A-Z School is very popular, and is a six-week course that takes you through basic trout fishing techniques, fly tying, trout habitats and feeding habits, etc. The current cost of $80 includes club membership for the current year and represents great value. See elsewhere in this website for details. Another important club activity is the series of “kids' fishouts” at the Fish & Game hatcheries, Paradise Valley Road . These are held four times a year, and provide children aged 6 – 14 with an opportunity to experience trout fishing. Every child catches a fish to take home. We are always in need of helpers for this very worthwhile and rewarding activity. See details elsewhere in this website. The club is fortunate to have many trophies to be won each year, some of them hotly contested. Details elsewhere in this website. The very popular annual Prize-giving dinner is held in September. Our Annual General Meeting is also held in September. All trout fishers, whether experienced or novice, are always welcome to participate in any of our club activities – please feel free to join in.
