About Us

The Rotorua Anglers Association was established in 1949. We have around 60 members covering all age groups from juniors to retirees.

Our Mission Statement is:

To enjoy fishing first, to promote the development of all anglers to reach their full potential and to respect and protect the environment.

The aims & objectives of the association are:

To protect the interests of Anglers and to promote the sport of angling.

To advocate and assist in all matters tending to the maintenance and improvement of the standard of angling, especially with regard to the stocking of lakes and streams.

To co-operate with the Eastern Region Fish and Game Council in all matters concerning angling in the Eastern Region and to prevent illegal practices and unlawful taking of fish.

To organise and encourage people to take up the sport for its recreational and social benefits.

To organise classes for teaching angling to adults and juniors.

To provide a venue where anglers can gather to socialise.

To encourage the policy of keeping New Zealand “Clean and Green”.

Our mission statement includes a commitment to "respect and protect the environment". That commitment has seen the Association become involved in the restoration of the Kauaka Stream, a project that started in 2014. This project has been led by member and past patron, Joe Fleet and continues to this day. You can read the 2014 report on the project here.

We have an extensive library and DVD collection, fishing equipment, which is available for club members' use, and an extensive stock of fly tying supplies.

If you are a resident angler, you are invited to join the association as a financial member. If you are visiting Rotorua, and are keen to meet up with local anglers, you are most welcome to visit us on a Friday evening and participate in our weekly social event. The association's rooms are open from 5pm until 7pm (and sometimes later) and this is the ideal opportunity to mix and mingle with members.

Take a few minutes to have a look through our website. There is a wealth of information about the many opportunities that are provided by us to improve the quality of your angling experience. Whether you are beginner, looking for tuition and the advice of experienced anglers, or a competent angler looking for an opportunity to share your knowledge and skill with others, the Rotorua Anglers Association has something to offer you.
